Female figure study recline step by step. Here is the final painting, the whole painting took me about a good few hours. In this color sketch, what I want to try out is making brush strokes more visible and rougher than most of my usual digital painting, kind of like the previous Tutorial portrait painting digital which I did a couple weeks back. It turns out close to what I expected. Recently I feel like I want to explore more on brushes and its texture strokes since I've not been using it as much because I wanted to demonstrate in most of my video that default brushes round hard and soft edge can get the job done as good, as long as you understand the foundation of values in general. Many people ask me about custom brushes, what do I use...how can they download it and so on. I just want to point out here that fancy texture brushes will not do you any good if you cannot pull off a decent painting with regular brush in the first place. Yes, there are some trick and such, but you cannot rely on them forever to make you piece shine. What I want most artist to understand is that basic foundation is pretty everything. Go read Three important rules for painting, if one can only master these three (shapes, value, and edges), one can really make his/her own work shine. There are other elements involve, but these three are at the core of your painting or sketch or illustration.Anyway, here is a final nude female figure color study.
Here are step by step of my figure study nude reclining lady. Just want to practice more figure and facial structure and hair on this one. Lots of time I spend on her hair and still not to the point that I want from the painting yet. I still have some work to paint more hair and such to get a good result. In my opinion, painting hair is the same as painting any object from light using light and shadow as guideline, but it slightly trickier because you better off using some sort of texture to refine it along with regular brush, same as in oil painting. Hair is one of the more difficult subject to pull of successfully. But once I heard some master said one should keep it simple like the rest of the painting and not to complicate it. Im still trying to figure out what that means. In this post studying values and some experimenting on monochrome toward adding some more colors after I define the values as you can see in the step by step images process. Still a lot more painting to be done.
Thor digital painting sketch character concept step by step tutorial. It's been quite a little while since my last update. And this time it's THOR! I was trying to do Thor sketch quite a few times in the past few month since there is a movie coming up soon, I think it's 2011. My first few attempts fail, well I didn't post them because they are kinda suck but I might repost the quick digital painting sketch along with the new one. This one was suppose to be a quick sketch or speed painting (around 30-45 minutes) but then I got carried away and paint longer than I thought I would because I just want it to be better than it was. Usually when I am going to come up with new painting, my goal is to make it as consistence in term or quality of art or execution, if not better than the last one I painted. I constantly try to better my skill, but it doesn't always turn out like I would imagine. It gets harder and harder, but once in a while I will have a break through in some technique or understanding of different angle to approach new painting in conceptual art. I always hope for better and all I can do is keep trying. :)
Here is Thor so far:
One more sitting session then it should be complete or hopefully.
Anyway, a bit about Thor movie hype!
A bit about Thor and its origin: Thor is a fictional superhero who appears in publications published by Marvel Comics. The character first appears in Journey into Mystery #83 (August 1962) and was created by editor-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and penciller Jack Kirby. Debuting in the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character is based on the Thor of Norse mythology. Thor has starred in several ongoing series; limited series and has been a perennial member of the superhero team the Avengers, appearing in each of the three volumes.
Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: THOR. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. Kenneth Branagh directs this fantasy epic which stars Australian actor Chris Hemsworth as the ancient Norse god, Tom Hiddleston as his evil brother Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, a young woman who befriends Thor on Earth, and Anthony Hopkins as Odin. *Anything with Anthony Hopkins is pretty cool!*
As for Thor character in latest film: Chris Hemsworth as Thor: The god of thunder based on the deity of the same name from Norse mythology. According to Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily blog, director Kenneth Branagh and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige chose Hemsworth after a back-and-forth process in which the 25-year-old actor was nixed early on, then given a second chance to read for the part. In an interview Hemsworth told Access Hollywood that the film stays true to the comics stating; “There’s so many different versions of the comic books, they’ve sort of bonded quite a few of them to form this particular story, but it’s all very true to the original stuff”. On his take of the character Hemsworth stated, "We just kept trying to humanize it all, and keep it very real. Look into all the research about the comic books that we could, but also bring it back to 'Who is this guy as a person, and what’s his relationship with people in the individual scenes?'". The first publicity image from the film released depicts Hemsworth in costume as Thor, illustrating elements taken from the comic character's design.
Anyway, this illustration or speed painting I am concepting has nothing to do with the movie. I just want to paint it up of how I would imagine it to be and it's just my vision of Thor and homage to the superhero mythology god. :)
