Link (リンク Rinku?) is the main protagonist in Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series of video games. Link has been featured in other video games from Nintendo, including its merchandising, comic books, and an animated television program. Link was awarded with a star on the Walk of Game in 2005, alongside Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog.


Link is the main protagonist of The Legend of Zelda series. He was created for the original The Legend of Zelda game in 1986 by Shigeru Miyamoto and has been the central character of all canonical The Legend of Zelda games. He was introduced as a young sword-wielding boy, but since The Adventure of Link, his identity, appearance, and role have changed from game to game. As already confirmed by Miyamoto, there are many different incarnations of Link; however, they share some distinct attributes, such as being left-handed and always wearing a green tunic. Link is given many titles throughout the series (i.e. he is called the Hero of Time in Ocarina of Time), but many fans number them according to their own timeline theories (i.e. Skyward Sword Link is called Link I by fans who believe Skyward Sword is first in the timeline thus far).
In the majority of Zelda games, Link's adventures mostly take place in the kingdom of Hyrule, traveling through the land and defeating a wide variety of enemies while trying to save both Princess Zelda and her kingdom from the clutches of Ganon, Link's primary antagonist.

Sakura Haruno (春野サクラ, Haruno Sakura) is one of the main characters in the series. She is a chūnin-level kunoichi of Konohagakure and a member of Team Kakashi. During her early years in the Academy, Sakura was frequently bullied by others due to her large forehead. To try and combat this, Sakura used her bangs to hide her forehead, fuelling the other kids' teasing by indicating she was sensitive about it. Ino Yamanaka, realising this, helped Sakura by giving her a ribbon that she used as a way of drawing attention to the cuter features of her forehead, which helped Sakura overcome her insecurity. The two became best friends and Sakura grew more confident, developing her own unique personality under Ino's guidance. Despite this, Sakura felt that she was living in Ino's shadow and longed to prove herself as Ino's equal.

Digital painting step by step X-men Dark Phoenix

Digital painting step by step X-men Dark Phoenix. This is a digital painting process continue from part one, painting Marvel character Dark Phoenix. It took me another 4-5 hours to come to the conclusion of the final image of Jean Grey as Dark Phoenix. I prefer to leave brush strokes on the painting because it looks more like a traditional painting in some way. Or I could say, I really like the sketchy loose style look rather than tight finished painting. There is something about the look of unfinished that I really love. So most of my painting always look sort of unfinished even though I called it done.
Most of the time, I felt like I want to stop at some point because I might have gone too far. This one almost fall into that category, there are some element I like and there are some element that I still cannot nail it into my liking. So it was partially successful.


About Dark Phoenix, Jean Grey would undergo a significant transformation from the X-Men's weakest member to one of its most powerful in the Uncanny X-Men extended storyline "The Phoenix Saga". In an attempt to save her fellow X-Men by piloting their damaged shuttle back to earth, Jean is exposed to fatal levels of radiation. Dying, but determined to save Scott and her friends, Jean's love pushes her to reach her full potential as a psychic, becoming a being of pure thought. The ship lands in the Jamaica bay, with the other X-Men unharmed. She then reforms her body and reemerges in a new green and gold costume and adopts the new codename Phoenix, now having gained immense powers. This new identity and her immense abilities became the focus of another extended storyline, "The Dark Phoenix Saga", in which Jean becomes overwhelmed and corrupted by her god-like powers and transforms into a force of total destruction, now called "Dark Phoenix", consuming a star, inadvertently killing the inhabitants of the star's solar system, and jeopardizing the entire universe. The storyline ends in Jean Grey's suicide, in a moment of regained control, to ensure the universe's safety.

How to draw Dark Phoenix, Jean Grey from X-men.  Painting Marvel character Dark Phoenix rising work in progress. This tutorial is step by step work in process. As viewers requested and voted on idrawgirls Facebook page, I was going to make a video tutorial on this one but it did not turn out the way I want it to be. So I scraped the video and paint over the failed attempt of drawing and paint Jean Grey as Dark Phoenix rising. It took me a couple hours to paint the first attempt.

Anyway, I was not going to give up easily with this painting so I rethink and repaint. It takes a lot longer than I thought with fixing up and repaint Jean Grey. But I think it turns out well on the second attempt. It is very difficult to design and paint a character in a horizontal format so I decided to give the second attempt on a vertical format. And here she is.

I had the whole recording of the process, but it is bad so I am not going to upload it. I failed too once in a while.




I am not done with the painting yet, it took me about four hours of thinking, fixing and painting all together.
I got carry away so I guess I will have to finish her as a final character concept painting rather than speedpaint.

How to draw people on horseback

How to draw people on horseback.  These are some quick sketches from last week.  Again they are in the same category as the Mongol and Tartar warriors art work I previously posted from a few posts back.


This time they are a variation of the Tartar raiders or bandits on horseback. Archery in Mongolia has had a long and famous history. The Mongol cannot be separated from horse and archery since their survival depends on them. The type of bow that they use is called "recurved composite bow." renowned for its military effectiveness. The old Mongolian bows that were used during the times of Genghis Khan were smaller than the modern weapons used at most Naadam festivals today. Modern Mongolian bows are larger and have string bridges. The modern design is very similar to the Manchurian bows used by the Chinese military during the Qing Dynasty. Rumor has it that when the Manchu conquered China and part of Mongolia, Mongolian archery was officially outlawed in Mongolia, along with Kung Fu practice in mainland China for fear of up rising of people who are very skill in these deadly martial arts.


Legend has it from an inscription on a stone stele was found near Nerchinsk in Siberia: "While Chinggis (Genghis) Khan was holding an assembly of Mongolian dignitaries, after his conquest of Sartaul (East Turkestan), Yesüngge (the son of Chinggis Khan's brother) shot a target at 536 meters.


Since achieving independence of Mongolia in 1921, the Government has promoted our traditional archery skills. Although few of us can still shoot well on horseback, many practice traditional archery on foot.

How to draw Chibi Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. Learn to draw Manga and Chibi character. Lara Croft is one of my favorite as a video games character (not in movie and comics). She is probably one of the very first video game character that I thought, wow. Tomb Raider is one of the break thru in video game when it first came out. It was original, fun and female with big moves and attitude. I love the game from original then 2 and 3.

Anyway I saw this Lara Croft Chibi drawing from Benzchan and LOVE IT!!!  So I thought I have to share it with you guys.  It is sooo cool and cute.  I really wish that there is a 2D video games version that make her look like that.  Maybe on iphone and Android?  That would be awesome! ;-)

Tobi or also known as Madara Uchiha (うちはマダラ, Uchiha Madara) is a major antagonist of the series. He co-founded Konohagakure, alongside the Senju clan, as leader of the Uchiha clan[3] and later, after his defection, Akatsuki. When first introduced, he poses as Tobi (トビ), Deidara's partner in Akatsuki.
Madara Uchiha (うちは マダラ Uchiha Madara?) is a legendary ninja in the history of the Naruto world, and one of the founders of Konohagakure. He is a descendant of the elder son of the world's first ninja, the Sage of the Six Paths, and hence, much like his clan-members, has inherited his ancestor's "curse of hatred" (which entails being a strong drive to acquire more power and complete one's objectives at all costs). Long ago, Madara became the first Uchiha, along with his brother, Izuna (イズナ?), to ascend their Sharingan to a higher level, called the Mangekyo Sharingan, gaining unprecedented new power, enough for the brothers to take over the clan. Madara, being the elder of the two, became the leader, and led the Uchiha on a rampage across the world, defeating many ninja clans.

Eddard Stark Game of Throne speedpainting

Eddard Stark Game of Throne speedpainting.  It's been a while since I updated.  ;-)
Well, in this post I just did a painting study of a screenshot from Game of Throne, Eddard Stark.  It took me about a little over an hour.  Once in a while, I will do painting study from reference just to get my lighting in shape.  Screenshot are one good example of good reference because it already have the good composition and lighting.  But the best reference in practice is usually from the photo an artists themselves took it.


Anyway, I usually start off from scribble as usual then build a silhouette from that.  Once I have the correct shape in place, then I will start building up value and find the correct place for each patch of value and color.  Painting is basically a placement of shapes in different color and value, once you arrange them in the right spot, you have a good painting.


About Eddard Stark from Game of Throne, sometimes called "Ned", is Lord of Winterfell, Lord Paramount of the North, and Warden of the North. He and Catelyn Tully have five children, and he has a bastard son, Jon Snow. Eddard is known for his sense of honor and justice. Though his family finds him kind, some consider his reserved personality a sign of coldness and disdain. After Jon Arryn's death, King Robert asked Eddard to replace him as Hand of the King, the monarch's closest advisor. Sasuke Uchiha (うちは サスケ Uchiha Sasuke?) is a fictional character in the Naruto manga and anime series created by Masashi Kishimoto. He was created as a rival and foil to the series' titular character, Naruto Uzumaki. Sasuke's design caused difficulties for Kishimoto as he drew the manga scenes, but he has grown to enjoy drawing him.
In the anime and manga, Sasuke is a member of the Uchiha clan, a highly skilled clan of ninjas allied to the village of Konohagakure. His primary motivation throughout the series is to avenge the destruction of his entire clan by killing his brother, Itachi Uchiha, a task he pursues at all costs. Digital painting characters design tutorial, Tartar warriors.

How to draw Tatar warriors. I got inspired reading a book about the Mongols' history and learn so much from it. So I thought I should do some Tartar warriors inspired concept art. So here they are, but they might not be historically accurate. I just use the base knowledge of how they look, dress, and fight. Then I just add some fun additional design to it so that it become romanticize like fictional figures.


In this tutorial, I am just basically sketching without any prior thumbnails or plan. I just grab the tablet, make canvas and go with it. It is just like when you doodle in any regular sketchbook. As you can see, when I first sketch the first portrait, it is very stiff and lack of personality or life. It is because it is a warm up phrase, happen to most people who have not drawn or painted in a little while. Then the second, it gets a little better because I was already warm up a little bit. And eventually, I came into myself when I start drawing the third figure. No matter how experience you are, warm up is still very important IMO. Anyway, I hope you will enjoy the video tutorial and the process.


About the Tartars history, the original Tatars inhabited the north-eastern Gobi in the 5th century and, after subjugation in the 9th century by the Khitans, migrated southward. In the 13th century, they were subjugated by the Mongol Empire under Genghis Khan. Under the leadership of his grandson Batu Khan, they moved westwards, driving with them many stems of the Turkic Ural-Altayans towards the plains of Russia.
In Europe, they were assimilated by the local populations or their name spread to the conquered peoples: Kipchaks, Kimaks and others; and elsewhere with Uralic-speaking peoples, as well as with remnants of the ancient Greek colonies in the Crimea and Caucasians in the Caucasus.
Siberian Tatars are survivors of the Turkic population of the Ural-Altaic region, mixed to some extent with the speakers of Uralic languages, as well as with Mongols. Later, each group adopted Turkic languages and many adopted Islam. The three ethnic descendants of the original 13th-century westward migration are Volga Tatars, Lipka Tatars and Crimean Tatars.
Tatars comprise a spectrum of physical appearance, ranging from Mongoloid and Caucasoid or a mixture of both and some (but not all) have an Asian origin.


Very interesting fact indeed, I was amazed how complex people's ethic origin are.
Basically a lot of us are brothers and sisters, but people all over the world are still fighting for many stupid reason. More people should read and art. ;-)

Son Goku (孫 悟空 Son Gokū?, addressed only as Goku in most English adaptations) is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise created by Akira Toriyama. He is loosely based on Sun Wukong, a central character in Journey to the West. However, Toriyama changed some of his characteristics to be more original. Goku is introduced as an odd, monkey-tailed boy who practices martial arts and possesses superhuman strength. Though initially believed to be an Earthling, it is later revealed that Goku is part of an extraterrestrial warrior race known as the Saiyans.
Dragon Ball follows Goku as he trains in various martial arts and searches the planet for the mythical Dragon Balls. Through his adventures he meets many others who share similar goals, such as Bulma who travels with him to find the Dragon Balls. As Goku matures, he becomes one of Earth's strongest warriors and protects it from villains who wish to harm his adopted home planet. Goku is depicted as being carefree and aloof when at ease but is quick to become serious in a fight. Like other characters in the series, Goku is able to concentrate his chi in order to use various energy based attacks, the most prominent being his signature Kamehameha, an attack that launches a blue energy wave from his hands.

Artist: Robert de Jusus or Benzchan is one of my favorite Manga artist on youtube. I love his Goku, the face has so much character and attitude. Personally I think this drawing is as awesome or better than the Manga itself, but for sure better drawing than the Goku Dragonball Z Anime itself. I love how cool, clean and solid his style and line art is. The guy is super badass with Manga drawing. I really hope you guys enjoy the tutorial.

Naruto Uzumaki (うずまきナルト, Uzumaki Naruto) is the title character and main protagonist of the series: Naruto. He is a genin from Konohagakure, a member of Team Kakashi, and the third and current jinchūriki of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox. Naruto is a fictional character in the anime and manga franchise Naruto created by Masashi Kishimoto.
In the series, Naruto is a ninja affiliated with the fictional village of Konohagakure. The villagers ostracize Naruto because the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, a malevolent creature that attacked Konohagakure, is sealed within his body. As such, Naruto has ambitions of becoming the village's leader, the Hokage, in order to gain recognition amongst his peers. Nonetheless, Naruto maintains a cheerful and boisterous personality, allowing him to befriend several other Konoha ninja throughout the series, as well as ninja from other villages. He builds an especially close relationship with Team 7, the ninja team where he belongs, treating them as his family. Naruto appears in all of the series' films, as well as in other media related to the franchise, including all video games and original video animations.
Fun Fact: When Kishimoto created Naruto's character, he incorporated a number of traits he felt made an ideal hero: a straightforward way of thinking, a mischievous side, and many of the attributes possessed by Goku from the Dragon Ball franchise. He also made sure to keep Naruto "simple and stupid."
