Monochromatic and Achromatic Color scheme.

Monochromatic and Achromatic Color scheme and its meaning. What is monochromatic.

The monochromatic color scheme uses variations in lightness and saturation of a single color. This scheme looks clean and elegant. Monochromatic colors go well together, producing a soothing effect. The monochromatic scheme is very easy on the eyes, especially with blue or green hues. You can use it to establish an overall mood. The primary color can be integrated with neutral colors such as black, white, or gray. However, it can be difficult, when using this scheme, to highlight the most important elements.

*Monochromatic is not Black and White (Gray-Scale values) which often mistaken. Black and white rendering is officially called Achromatic. Both are great for practicing rendering value, and contrast of the painting.

Pros: The monochromatic scheme is easy to manage, and always looks balanced and visually appealing. Great practice for values.
Cons: This scheme lacks color contrast. It is not as vibrant as the complementary scheme.

Tips:

1. Use Values (tints, shades, and tones) of the key color to enhance the scheme.
2. Try the analogous scheme; it offers more nuances while retaining the simplicity and elegance of the monochromatic scheme.

Color temperature: Warm vs. cool colors

TIPS: Using the opposite as compliment to each other.
Cool Light ---> produce Warm Shadow
Warm Light ---> produce Cool Shadow

The distinction between warm and cool colors has been important since at least the late 18th century but is generally not remarked in modern color science or colorimetry.[citation needed] The contrast, as traced by etymologies in the Oxford English Dictionary, seems related to the observed contrast in landscape light, between the "warm" colors associated with daylight or sunset and the "cool" colors associated with a gray or overcast day. Warm colors are often said to be hues from red through yellow, browns and tans included; cool colors are often said to be the hues from blue green through blue violet, most grays included. There is historical disagreement about the colors that anchor the polarity, but 19th century sources put the peak contrast between red orange and greenish blue. This concept is related to the color temperature of "visible light", an important consideration in photography, television and desktop publishing. The determination of whether a color appears warm or cool is relative. Any color can be made to appear warm or cool by its context with other colors.


Color theory has ascribed perceptual and psychological effects to this contrast. Warm colors are said to advance or appear more active in a painting, while cool colors tend to recede; used in interior design or fashion, warm colors are said to arouse or stimulate the viewer, while cool colors calm and relax. Most of these effects, to the extent they are real, can be attributed to the higher saturation and lighter value of warm pigments in contrast to cool pigments. Thus, brown is a dark, unsaturated warm color that few people think of as visually active or psychologically arousing.

Concept Illustration process tutorial, painting woman, Blondie with double pistols PART 1. It is a work in progress of an illo that I am working on as an experimental personal project.
This one starts out as a quick concept idea of action pose. I just want to dome up with something different that what I usually do by putting more movement and shadow casting onto the figure. Also I want to spend longer time than 20 to 30 minutes (That what I usually do with almost all of the Free Video Tutorials on this blog), and actually do some decent painting sketch and growth as an artist. Anyway, you will probably more of these longer sketch from now in recent post. Hope you guys can learn from it the same way as previously are or better.
