How to draw female character design.  Female character design sketch in process. Just had some time last night to sketch a character in contemporary costume. Usually I tend to design a fantasy or period or sci-fi costume. This one I felt like I should do something normal in the current period environment. :)

Well, this one is pretty much a study that I intend to do. I am trying to render or paint leather and to get its values correctly. It is still in process and on its way (hopefully) to be finished.

It is a good exercise for any artist to study painting of fabric such as silk, satin, leather because those fabric when put right next to metal, skin, or plain cottons, they have unique quality and reflect light differently. In other words, it has its own way of showing off its values on a painting. If you look at many classical painting, they are great examples, especially John Singer Sargent, Ander Zorn, etc.

If you notice, the face is the one that I've already sketch earlier as a tutorial a while back. And I have a video tutorial for it you can go check it out here, How to draw comics batgirl. I just happen to like that face so I thought, I should do something better with it and create a new design for her. But still I did tweak the facial and hair just tiny bit so that it fits the new design.

How to draw a nose

Now I am kind of back to basic stuff partly because I want to test out some video recording and timing of the drawing duration. There has been many request about drawing a nose so here it is. It is true that many artist struggling with drawing and sketching nose. One thing to keep in mind is that, when drawing a nose don't think of it as a nose, just draw or sketch according to lighting and provide the drawing with values you really see, not what you think you see or what it should look like from your imagination. Once you nail it down (drawing nose), you can then re-imagine how to correctly drawing a nose using value and line combination and how you see fit and actually make a nose looks pretty as it should.

Here another quick painting sketch figure or female anatomy study. I did the previous study Figure Study female form step by step about a week or two ago. This one is a bit different because it didn't focus on the form as much. It's more of creating a form according to the light source or painting from light study. If you notice the higher contrast (Chiaroscuro = light VS dark) within the form, the more interesting the painting become. High contrast lighting set up can create very high visual impact on the figure because your eyes are trying to figure out pieces of puzzle together.

Chiaroscuro itself is Italian, and roughly means, “light and dark.” It was first used to describe a type of drawing on medium-dark paper where the artist created both darker areas with ink and lighter areas with white paint.

If you just start out studying figure, I would strongly advice you to go watch How to draw female body torso step by step (Easy lesson on how to draw and construct a body in the simple way for beginner.) and how to draw woman figure hip pelvis (This one I show the simple way to draw pelvis, butts, and legs). There are also figure in simple form using lines or what we called gestures figures video tutorial and learn how to draw woman proportion sheet.

After all that you can go watch more advance stuff like Character Design Face Male Merchant Character, or Drawing Male Face Swordman and Learn how to draw and paint face. If you watch all these videos, I am sure you will learn something here and there and they will get you somewhere.

About the character:Death the Kid (デス・ザ・キッド, Desu za Kiddo) commonly called "Kid" (キッド, Kiddo) by his friends and family, is one of the three main meisters that the series follows. He is Patti and Liz's meister and Shinigami-sama's son. He is established early on as a very powerful character and though he continually gets stronger as time progresses, he is often more of a comic relief character.
Kid suffers from obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, or OCPD, which is represented as an obsession about everything having to be perfectly symmetrical and takes the idea of perfection to the extremes. To him, anything symmetrical is beautiful and if it is off by any measurement (a picture frame off by millimeter, or a pose that is slightly out of place), he will try to correct it right away, even if the situation calls for utmost attention. His favorite number being 8 because of its symmetry. He is so obsessed with symmetry that Kid refuses to fight a battle unless he has both Patty and Liz together as they would not be symmetrical apart. The biggest problem Kid has is with his hair, because the left half of his bangs are marked with three white stripes.
