Digital painting process final step Zombie Hunters

Digital painting process final step "Zombie Hunters." You can take a look at the previous steps below:
It took me a little while to finish it up.
At this process of painting, it isn't much to say, except clean up the color and tighten up the overall values. And I notice that the mood or the overall values of the images is a lot darker than any of my previous painting.
I think because I just got a new LG monitor about a week ago, about 27 inches (I've been working on my Dell XPS 17" for the past five years), the color and everything look very awesome on that screen. Plus it HUGE and clear...I can see a lot better and I love it a lot more. Though I guess...the final image I worked on turns out pretty dark on my other monitors (at work or laptop). I will have to investigate that a bit. Anyway, here is a final version of Zombie Hunters concept design. More stuff to come. have fun.

Here is the Zombie Hunter Squad concept.

Draw and paint gasmask soldier.

How to draw gasmask soldier step by step.  Drawing and painting tutorial.  If you composition doesn't work, do it over. Yep, that's the only solution. That's why we, artists, do a lot of thumbnails (or nowadays could be speedpainting test) to work out the composition and lighting before we actually go in and do the real painting and refinement of whether digital or traditional. It will safe us a lot of time and effort and the illustration or painting will turn out better than if you trying to go from zero to nowhere. Though it may work from time to time just doodling and messing around, but it's not the way to go if you really have a serious assignment from the real project or from clients. ;)
As what I did previously with the girl (zombie hunter girl), I was just paint on the go aimlessly. For doodling, it works because you explore and do whatever you feel like without any sort of framework or deadline. I did have some idea, but it was NOT solid or there is no thesis in the idea of that illustration and it conveys thru the image. Not a good example for a solid project...but possibly good show for the doodling in sketchbook style aimlessly and just practice.

Anyway, so I am doing it over since I didn't really want to scrap it. It has some potential to be a good piece. So I gather my thought together and trying to put together pieces and find my theme of the image and what I could do with the character. So since her pose is very relax and more comfortable with the surrounding, I should put her with the teammate or some sort of character that will not intensify the scene (like her enemies). And muddling around and find the fit composition that would put it together nicely and it turns out better than the previous image (How to draw a Zombie digital painting). So I decided to put the gasmask dude from the previous drawing video tutorial, gas-mask apocalypse rogue soldier, in there since they are in the same gang. And here it is. ***though I took the Zombies out, don't worry....they will be back in NEXT!***

Painting color over monochromatic sketch portrait step by step

Painting color on monochromatic sketch portrait step by step. Digital painting tutorial, I know a lot of artists start off monochrome or achromatic then go color and others start off with color.

In this tutorial is just demonstrated one approach from many. So try out different ways will be good for you, and just go with what you feel comfortable most.
Here is a quick post for those of you who wonder how to go from monochrome to color. It's kind of tricky with skin tone, basically you just have to define the existing value and paint over. But since you already have the monochrome base, it will probably safe you almost half of the time than start doing it with color right off the bat.
Sometimes I do start with base color that's close to skin hues, and sometimes I start with black and white. It works both ways, and I think it's good to be able to do it both way. Anyway, good sketching and practice for me. I haven't been doing much painting recently, but I will try to sketch and speedpaint and post them as much as I can. :)

Step by step painting portrait over black and white drawing.

You can also go see the video how to draw this below face here: How to draw comics batgirl.
It's the previous process before I get to here (with the exception of the costume, but the face is basically the same face)

Here is what I have for the final
zombie hunter girl

Here is a bigger size for "Zombie Hunter Girl"

Also as I am changing the composition a bit since I pay too much attention on the face alone already. And adding a shotgun pistol instead of the typical ones. Hope it will work out and done soon.... spending way too much time thinking changing, tweaking,... this is what happen when you try to improvise and didn't plan your painting from the get go.

Still much work to be done so to be continued.

drawing people face side view or profile

Drawing people face side view.  This is a simple tutorial on how to draw people face side view, in this tutorial is a female profile.

Here is a final image: female face sketch profile

1) I start with an circle shape drawing (Same as the front), but this one I am going to draw a frontal shot.

2) Then I add a triangle shape in middle of the bottom to make a chin. But this time move the triangle all the way to the left (or right) *see arrow.

3) The I drew a horizontal to divide the circle in half. This horizontal line would be where humans eyes should be, they are usually right in the middle of the face horizontally. There is no need for vertical line because you already have the left edge of the outline of the circle + triangle and that's where the nose and lips should line up in relation to the face. The I make the nose (bottom) mark and the mouth line. (The nose should be place half way in between the horizontal line and the bottom edge line of the circle. The mouth usually half way between the nose and chin.)

4) After I have all the important facial feature mark, I go in and tighten up the line drawing. When you draw the nose, just imagine drawing a triangle edge with curve in (convect) just a little bit or however you prefer it to look. Then the upper lip should be more outward or pronounce than the lower lip. Also connect the line from the bottom of the nose to the upper lips (make it a bit slope, not vertical)

5) At this stage I begin to draw hair line starting from her forehead. Then I added her neck in.

6) Continue the hairline to frame her face. Make it simple in big clumps of hair, simplify big clump of hair and don't focus on individual hair itself (I might do a tutorial on this later.)

7) The top of the head should be additional half a circle tall, measure from the top of the existing circle. Then I continue to tighten up the line draw a bit more.

8) It looks fin, then I clean up the construction lines. Done!

Gas-mask apocalypse rogue soldier sketch tutorial

How to draw gasmask soldier.  Gasmask apocalypse rogue soldier sketch tutorial, character thumbnail concept sketch. Since I've been playing around with zombie idea and the zombie hunter's weapons in the previous post, how to draw Zombie digital painting tutorial. I was thinking about having the female character has a mace, but then shotgun and flamethrower were suggest by our friends and readers.
Since Flamethrower is one of my favorite arsenal of weapons of all time doesn't matter what game I was playing...with flamethrower, it always make it waaaaaaaaaaay better!

Since I could not possibly squeeze in flamethrower or flame-gun into the previous illustration because. IT IS BIG and will possibly change the look and the characteristic or persona of the character I already established. I decided to quickly sketch an addition cast to the Zombie hunting horde. The creepy gas-mask rogue soldier steampunk-ish dude.

Anyway, it was a fun.

How to draw Zombie digital painting tutorial

How to draw Zombie digital painting tutorial. Ah ha!
Here is a continuation from the previous mysterious girl sketch or female character design sketch in process still. Well, I came into a mid way of illustration and start putting some Zombies in there and I thought, why don't I just do a tutorial on drawing a Zombie, a short one. So I start recording a video of how to draw zombie's head and partial of the body. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy it. It isn't quite like a basic tutorial, it's a little more intermediate and it's going kinda fast. But you could watch it a few times, you might get something out of it. Or I hope so. :)

YES, Zombie! And yes, she is possibly fighting them. So now it make sense to why she would carry such nasty weapon? I was thinking shotgun, but then she isn't fighting them alone so some other character would carries shotgun and other Zombie killing equipments.

Digital Painting girl female sketch update

How to draw female character design.  Digital Painting girl female character sketch update. Here is an update on the previous sketch (female character design sketch). I painted more detail (still in gray scale) and trying to bring the leather texture from her jacket using values.
In general, object has its own reflective scale which make it interact with light differently. Like I stated previously metal and leather looks different because how it's interact with light. As painters, we have to take careful observation of these kinds of things because it will make us more efficient in capturing different materials when painting. Understanding lighting aka values more and more will take us to the next level.
Good exercise for this kind of thing is to paint a still life arrangement of apple, grapes right next to metal cup or teapot. It will make your understanding of lighting better and you then will know what I was talking about. :)
And LUCA (one of our favorite readers and friends) said, "I do that still life exercise about 5 times a week and it really helps me understand form and color."

Here are more of the similar style of drawing video tutorials, go watch How to draw comics Batgirl (basically focusing on face and facial structure), How to draw Fantastic 4 Susan Storm (this one is showing more of body arrangement and pose) and watch How to draw comics superhero spiderman, and my How to draw comics character Hulk (It has two video tutorial both drawing and painting). Also another video tutorial that tackle more of dynamic pose and a little foreshortening comics book style How to draw Captain America. And an older video tut, How to draw Batman or Darknight.

Draw arm muscles side view

Draw arm muscle side view. Drawing demonstration of arm muscle from side view. Learn how to draw and sketch from video and step by step tutorial. This tutorial will show you how to draw basic arm muscles in male anatomy from side view perspective. Basically I usually start of with basic shapes, just think of it as geometry shape to simplify the form. After you have a rough shape or under drawing then you can start tightening up your drawing creating shoulder muscle or Deltoids.
Then along the way down we have bicep from front side of the body (from side view) then triceps muscle toward the back side of the body.
Then down to forearm, moving from front side of the body to the back, we have Supinator, Extensor closer below to the wrist, Flexor and Bluge.  Please watch the video then you will know exactly where to locate them and how to draw them correctly.

The following tutorial is part of male muscle anatomy study that can be used for comics, manga, anime and video game concept art. Learn how to draw simplify arm muscle structure start with using simple shapes to finish pencil render.
