happy holidays 2010

Keep up the good work and your days will come, it's just the matter of time. Life is all about timing... the unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable become available, the unattainable... attainable. Have the patience, wait it out It's all about timing.

Just want to say that I am so glad I've discovered your blog! While here in Germany we celebrate the second Christmas holiday I know that Christmas is already over in the States. So all I can say is Happy New Year, and thanks for the loads of amazing blog posts!

Hi,

Happy New Year to Xia, this great blog and everybody else.

I was wondering (since im a noob in painting and at the edge of giving up) if someone could spare 2 min to look at one of my sketches and give me some tips on values or techniques im missing. I keep ending up smudgy (upper body) or blocking insanely :S.

Happy New Year !

(Sry for posting in the wrong section if i did :) )

Anonymous> Values are one of the most important thing in a painting, and its nice to see you're focusing on them. The less you complicate your life the better, so keep things simple. Don't go to smudging too early. Block in the big shapes FIRST, then go for the secondary shape. For example we see the head as an egg-shape, then we move to the eyes and nose... and so on.
Look out for munsell value chart that will probably help you.

All the best, and one last thing. All artists face problems... if you don't have determination and consistency, you'll not make it - so don't give up! If you find it encouraging, say to yourself that all artists faced such problems at some point in their way ;)

peace.
