Wrap 920 AV another sci-fi Gadget comes true

Wrap 920 AV another sci-fi Gadget comes true. The newest Portable entertainment System for you!

The Wrap 920 AV presented by Vuzix Corporation is considered to be a ground-breaking addition to the exciting market of video eyewear. This functional pair of sunglasses, upgradeable with optional accessories, incorporates Vuzix’ prorietary Quantum optics technology that allows a “see-thru” video experience.

Eyewear that takes the form of a standard pair of fashionable sunglasses with revolutionary ‘see-thru’ Quantum optics technology that doesn’t block out the world around you.

Utilizing Vuzix’ Quantum optics technology and ultra low power electronics, the Wrap 920AV is the most advanced video eyewear available today. Its unique ‘see-thru’ lens design allows you to stay grounded in the real world while watching your private video display or experiencing augmented or mixed reality on mobile devices such as the iPhone. A revolutionary patent pending electronic IPD system enables adjustment for virtually all facial structures and optional prescription lens inserts provide the ultimate solution for eyeglass wearers.

Features and specifications for Wrap 920AV: virtual 60-inch screen viewed from 9-feet, 2D and 3D video formats, Quantum optics technology, AMLCD displays, ultra low power electronics, high-quality noise-isolating, 6 hours of battery life on 2 AA batteries, on screen display settings control, for use with or without eyeglasses, optional Bluetooth 6-Degree of freedom head tracking system, optional USB-powered stereo camera pair.

The Wrap 920 AV will be available in Spring 2009 on vuzix.co.uk and through other distributors.

According to the company, “The AV920-C will connect to Xbox360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and others to provide an immersive experience and a 62 inch viewing screen for single and multiplayer video games”

Features Of New iWear AV920-C:

* Advanced Video Frame Buffers, allowing for up to four 62 inch virtual screens
* iWear 3D enabled for automatic 2D/3D control; no buttons required
* Twin high-resolution 640×480 (920,000 pixels) LCD displays
* AccuTilt viewer pivots up to 15 degrees for comfortable viewing angle
* Can be worn with or without prescription eyeglasses
* The integrated rechargeable lithium ion battery gives approximately six hours of continuous viewing
* 24-bit true color (16 million colors) and 60 Hz progressive scan update rate

“The AV920-C adds a new dimension to multiplayer games. Instead of viewing all four players on the one screen, the AV920-C allows users to select their half or quadrant of the display screen and view it blown on their own personal 62 inch screen,” said Paul Travers, Vuzix’s CEO. “With the ability to daisy chain the AV920-C’s together, up to four players can game without distraction or fear that an opponent can view their screen. This will change how local or inhome multiplayer games are played.”

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. IS THIS ONE OF YOUR DREAM GADGETs? It's certainly one of mine, but we will see how it performs when it actually out for the consumers like us to test drive!!!

The new Vuzix iWear AV920-C personal video display is expected to be available later this month but no words on its price yet.

I know the article is not about art but I thought it is some how related to most of what artists nowadays do (Movies, videogames, media, comisc etc. that's what we all in for so...it's good to keep up with the technology.) :)

Sounds interesting, but I'm very sceptical, I've seen many similar devices (even though they didn't have this see-through feature), and they weren't as good in reality as they looked on paper. And they all put a lot of strain on eyes too.

Seems nice, but we had more of the same before and it never seemed to got off the ground well, most often to expensive I think.

As for posting something like this on a art blog, I think technology can be an art-form on it self. You might wane look on Google for "PC case mod" also if you don't have anything to do. Used to do some stuff like that.

As for a gadget I would really want, it would definitely be a selective hearing device. Something you could program to filter out certain noise or more specifically, certain people. :]
