Gesture drawing from figure drawing session one minute gestures from life drawing session. One to two minutes gestures drawing Figure study from life drawing session. This is another week that I have been to the session in since it is in the morning during the weekday, I can always make it there. Hopefully I can continue going and put it in my permanent schedule for my drawing plan. Now I can experiment with different approach and continue to improve my figure drawing skill. This one is from last Thursday morning. Hope you like them.
Below are 1 minute poses from figure drawing session.
Game of Thrones at San Diego Comics Con 2011. Game of Thrones is by far my current most favorite TV and book series at the moment. It is really well written and the series also awesome. I am glad I don't have to go to Comics Con to get to see something new or keep myself update of what is going on in the current entertainment industry. Thank you Youtube. Here is a 45 minutes long video of Q/A about Game of Thrones the TV production and the books if you are a fan you will love it. I am. And George R. R. Martin himself is leading the panel along with executive producer and screen writter David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Let's also not forget half of the leading men and ladies are also there, Some of the cast featured in the first season and appearing on this panel are (in alphabetical order) Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Ser Jaime Lannister, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, and Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo.
The story is very very rich in character's development and surprise, my favorite character so far has to be Tyrion Lannister. And I think Peter Dinklage who plays Tyrion Lannister got nominee for Emmy. He is well deserve to win. I cannot wait to see "A Clash of Kings."
Digital painting tutorial illustration step by step. This latest illustration painting is basically base on my previous life drawing from a model in live session. *see , gesture figure study from life drawing session.* It was a 10-15 minutes sketches, then I scan it into my computer and do a quick paint over in Photoshop. Since it has basic lighting and decent pose, the paint over turn out to be better looking than I actually expected. After taking a couple more look at it, I thought since some the master illustrators back in the day use sketch as their base for their finish painting sometimes. And in this one, I already have a decent enough paint over of the female figure with interesting enough lighting. I decide to work over and make it a more refine painted illustration. During the process, I was looking at some of Frank Frazetta work just to be inspire so I can actually motivate myself to do something cool. I decided that I should paint something to tribute to the most important fantasy master artist. So here is how this painting comes about. But in the beginning, I was just going to paint some sort of ranger warrior in the jungle woman. But then as I progress while taking a break watching wild life documentary on Netflix, I watch some interesting story of Jaguars in the Amazon. I decided that she should mimic or have her costume design be influence by the beast since she's hanging on the high tree branch in the jungle. When I finally almost finish the illustration, I thought to myself. Wait a second, she does look familiar. She looks like Sheena! Ah! I thought I was going to paint something original! But that's cool, whatever it is I am kinda of please with the lighting, simplicity and overall brush work.

The Amazing Spiderman 2012? I don't understand why are they remaking another Spiderman 1.0 SO SOON. with Marc Webb as a director. Webb, best known previously for his clever romantic comedy (500) Days of Summer," said the decades of "Spider-Man" comic books are a bottomless source for big-screen adaptations. David Germain, Movie Writer says it's never too soon for another "Spider-Man" movie. I am thinking to myself, they cannot be serious. Really?
In the year 2002, arguably one of the biggest and most successful comic bookmovies of all time hit theaters with Sam Raimi's classic Spider-Man. I love Raimi's movies. But director Sam Raimi and his stars, Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco, bid farewell to the franchise after 2007's "Spider-Man 3," opening the door for Marvel and Sony Pictures to go back to the drawing-board for a fresh approach.
The reboot, entitled The Amazing Spider-Man is set to hit sometime next summer and is said to be much smaller in scale than the past three movies and be more character driven. I didn't even know they were making repeated version of Spiderman 1 until this morning. I don't really know what to think, but it will be really really tough to live up the Sam Raimi's Spiderman.
There are so many more interesting super heroes you can make a movie from. Why Spiderman again when the previous one was still so super awesome and fresh? You thought? Post them all on the comment.
Painting over figure drawings. Figure painting from life drawing sketches. These two are another painted over my life drawing sketches. The sketches are ten minutes poses from the session and the painted over takes about couple hours each. When I draw at the session, I was trying to capture simple light and shadow within the limited amount of time. It is difficult to get it accurately but in the way it has advantages. Because you have the time limited that you are able to draw, you will have to force yourself to think quick and make it as simple as possible. So I think you get right into the essence of just light and shadow. It makes the sketch a lot less complicate and simplicity is for the most part great for painting. You get right down to just shape and value right away.

I believe drawing from life is by far the best exercise for artist who really want to be knowledgeable on character design or figure drawing and painting in general. Because you can see your subject in real life and see how muscle flexes, stretches and contracts in real life. And people move all the time so you will have to be fast and most accurate as you can get at the same time. You will see your improvement in drawing real fast if you really focusing on life drawing practice and study.

I hope you enjoy the post. I might possibly select a few of them and play around with painting a bit more.
Painting over gesture drawing. This post is a Painting over one of the gesture drawings that I post yesterday, gesture figure study from life drawing session. I figure it would be a good practice for light and shadow not using any reference but only a gesture drawing from life session that I just did. So I pick the one that has a better or clearer definition of light and shadow because I am going to need that to paint. I am just focusing on extreme two value at the moment. There is not much to this painting except two value but it turns out nicely. I spend about twenty to thirty minutes painting out the figure. It was not that hard because the drawing and the value are basically there. After I decided on the two values that I established, then I am paying attention on the skin tone coloration and finally edges. So here it is a gesture study painted over.
Gestures life drawing from July 2011. Figure study from life drawing session. I have not gone to life drawing session in months because I could not get up early enough on the weekend. And something always come up to interrupt my drawing plan. So I decided to look for open life drawing sessions around the area during the weekday a week ago. And finally I found three to four sessions that I can attend and practice my life drawing skill. This morning, I finally went to a session which had mostly gestures and short poses. Here are some life drawing I did from this morning.
